Read that again: You deserve to take up space. Not just physically, but emotionally, mentally, spiritually. In your relationships. In your workplace. In your world, find your voice and worth.
For so many of us, especially those who are neurodivergent, queer, or gender-diverse, the message we’ve received has been challenging. This is also true for those living with mental health challenges. Directly or indirectly, we are told we are too much or not enough. So we shrink. We fawn. We apologise for existing. We silence ourselves to keep the peace, instead of taking up space and finding our worth.
But here’s the truth: You deserve to take up space just as you are. Recognise this as taking up space: finding your voice and worth matters.
Taking Up Space Isn’t Selfish—It’s Self-Honouring
Taking up space doesn’t mean being loud or dominant. It means honouring your needs. Asking for help. Speaking your truth, even when your voice trembles. It’s letting yourself rest without guilt, say no without explanation, and exist without needing to earn your worth.
Therapy can be a space to rediscover that. To unlearn shame. To reconnect with your body. To remember that your feelings are valid and your needs matter. You don’t have to prove anything to take up space in this world. Your existence is reason enough.
💬 You may have been told to “stop overreacting.” Perhaps someone said “calm down.” You might have heard “get it together.” Know this: You deserve to take up space. Not just in the moments when you’re calm and productive. You deserve it in the messy, emotional, human parts of your journey too, as you embrace taking up space: finding your voice and worth.
You are not a burden. You are a being with impact, value, and depth. 🌸
So breathe. Unclench your jaw.
Take that full, grounded breath.
And repeat after us: I deserve to take up space.
